Village Homestay in Bangladesh

$180 tour starting at

More than eighty percent of Bangladesh’s population lives in rural areas. Therefore, the Bangladeshi homestay is unique and offers profound insight and a rare opportunity to explore the rural community’s authentic charms in a traditional setting. Your accommodation will be in a traditional farming village with a local family.

The families that participate in the homestay program are carefully selected and comply with the strict guidelines set by our organization. Savour local hospitality and participate in delightful activities that have been lined up: harvesting or planting crops, fishing, swimming in the river, visiting local schools, cycling or boating around the villages, visiting local bazaars, and playing traditional games.

We usually do not assign a professional guide for the homestay because they are aware of your likings, dislikes, conveniences, and inconveniences and will always influence the family in every step likewise. And the true cultural experience will stay behind the window. Instead, your guide will be a local student or a person who speaks English but still does not know much about the Western lifestyle. Only this is how you will learn why the big fish head came to your plate. That is not all; they will serve you chicken heads, liver, stomach, hearts, and so on… Maybe this is their delicacy. God sends guests with good luck for the family. It may be their duty to please their guests with the best meal they have. Where your professional guide can be a barrier. The host family will be informed about your dietary restrictions and level of spice. You can always say no, and eat only what you like. It is also important for them to learn about your culture. So we call it a cultural exchange program through a trip. Not only a trip, but an experience that you will never forget!

Village homestays can also be incorporated with any other trips in different regions of Bangladesh. Some homestays are tucked away in the hinterland, while others are in the neighborhood of major towns and easily accessible. For instance, the Narsingdi and Narayangonj homestay villages are only about an hour or two drive from the capital city of Dhaka.

Every homestay village presents a different and remarkable experience. Visitors to Narsingdi and Narayangonj can have delightful experiences of beautiful landscapes, diverse agriculture and farmer’s lives, famous textiles, local crafts, and savoring tropical fruits and fresh vegetable dishes besides fish and meat items. During a stay at Narsingdi and Narayangonj, visitors can make a day trip to the first capital of Bengal in Sonargaon and Panam Nagar, along with a boat trip on the Meghna River.

There are always many things to do or learn in the homestay village. The Villagers will eagerly invite you to join in their daily activities, and you will soon feel that the enthusiasm is infectious! Harvesting local crops, visiting fish farms, or learning how to make traditional delicacies are only a splash of the many things that await your arrival.

Brush up on your Bangla language with the children or indulge in traditional pastimes such as kite-flying and top spinning. Local cottage industries and weaving are other enjoyable pursuits in the area. Folk music is famous and spread all over Bangladesh; evening cultural music performances can be arranged to entertain visitors.

A homestay program is suitable for all types of visitors, be it families, students, or senior citizens. The simplicity of rural village life and the engaging pastimes that are found here will create a unique and memorable excursion. Experience genuine Bangladeshi warmth and let the homespun hospitality work its charm!

Our homestay arrangements are as diverse as the local culture and can also be found in Barishal, Patuakhali, Bagerhat, Morrelgonj, Mongla, Nijhoom Dwip, Rajshahi, Puthia, Nawgaon, Bogra, Paharpur, Kurigram, Srimongal, and Sylhet. Which you can easily incorporate with any other trip.

We contacted Royal Bengal Tours for assistance with arranging tickets for the Rocket launch to Morrelganj, at the edge of the Sundarbans, with a transfer to Sadarghat in Dhaka for the start of the Journey and for a homestay in Morrelganj. Jewel and his colleagues provided excellent advice regarding the options for the type of launch and accommodation on board, arranged the homestay and provided guidance regarding other accommodation options available. We were met at Dhaka airport with the launch tickets and provided with detailed contact information and schedules. A transfer had also been arranged. The support and communication from Royal Bengal was excellent throughout and we would recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Bangladesh.
