Chittagong has a population of around 8.6 million (in 2017). The climate is pleasant year-round; it becomes cooler in winter and slightly hot and humid during the summer—the annual rainfall of Chittagong is an average of 2735 mm (107.7 in) per year. The Chittagong region is still off the beaten track.

October to early March would be the time for this trip. Rest of the year, the rivers and sea are quite rough for boating around the shipbreaking yards.
