Dhaka Architecture Tour – 7 days

$1450 tour starting at

Dhaka architecture tour is an opportunity to interact with architects, architecture, art, culture, and people around Dhaka and its outskirts for seven days. While visiting an architectural site, visitors often forget the life and culture around it. This trip is the perfect blend of architecture and fascinating Bengali culture. We named this trip “a journey through the living architecture of Bangladesh.”

Bangladesh’s contemporary architecture has developed to be one of the most active and relevant movements globally, rooted in a century-old history and carried to modernity by great master Muzharul Islam, and it is clear that we can all benefit from its architectural approach.

Today’s architectural debate is being led by a new generation of architects who have been influenced by the concepts of Muzharul Islam, the Chetana Study Group, and Louis Kahn’s work. In recent years, they have established a distinct architecture scene that carries forward the socio-economic and architectural principles of their forefathers in a contemporary manner. Despite the fact that the movement’s proponents designate separate focal points with spatial assertions, they are deeply interconnected as a community in a vibrant professional and academic interchange. Despite constant global forces, it is this loose group that repeatedly speaks up for architectural ideals and knowledge of Bengali culture. Architects such as Bahirul Haque, Uttam Kumar Saha, Saif Ul Haque, Nahas Khalil, Kashef Chowdhury, Ehsan Khan, Marina Tabassum, Salauddin Ahmed, and others have designed a wide range of structures to meet the demands of both rural and urban people. To name a few, the Friendship Centre in Gaibandha, the Bait Ur Rouf Mosque in Dhaka, the Loom Shed for Amber Denim in Gazipur, the Arcadia Amphibious School near Savar, the Prism Cyclon Shelters in Cox’ Bazar, the Teknaf National Park Visitor Center, and many more buildings are modern architectural masterpieces.

An architecture tour requires a lot of permission from the government, private organizations, and individuals for site visits and interactive sessions. Therefore, we need a minimum of a month’s notice to organize this trip for individuals or groups. We have been inviting a lot of architects and architecture students from universities around the world. Dhaka architecture tour has been becoming more and more interesting day by day since we started this new path and fallen in love. Our exclusive network with the noble architect community of Bangladesh has made us unparalleled.

As the world is changing every moment, the itinerary of this trip will not be the same every time. This itinerary is more of an idea of our day during the trip. You will receive an updated itinerary before the trip.

This trip will be lead by an English speaking guide who has a very good konwledge and connections with local architects and has comprihansive knowledge of all necessary logistics supports. Local architect may come at the site to explain you project or an interactive session.

Price of this trip will also vary depending on the number of participants, and the type of subsequent services involved according to the latest trip itinerary. For a group of professional architects and a group of students, a trip itinerary may be the same but there can be a huge change in the service demand.

This is not only a trip, but a very special ceremony for architects around the world to get together in Bangladesh for new learning.

Leave Dhaka after breakfast at 8:00 AM for Sonargaon – the first capital of Bengal. On the way, we shall take our first stop in Nawapara Jamdani village. This is where the magic fingers are at weaving traditional Jamdani sari, which is an incredible artwork with a narrow future due to the cheaper productions of modern technology. Continue to drive to the old capital of Bengal – Sonargaon; Panam Nagar, beautiful Sadarbari, and well-maintained Folk-Art Museum; there are a lot of Bengal hut-style buildings in this area to explore. Continue to Buiddyer Bazar for a refreshing country boat cruise on the Meghna (One of the major rivers in Bangladesh) River for a couple of hours. This river trip will include an interesting walk to explore the primitive Char village life. Char is a temporary sandy shifting island formed by river erosion and sedimentation. There are thousands of chars in Bangladesh up from the northern part till to the south coast. Life on the Char is minimal; access to the medical care center and education is very tough, and impossible in some areas. It is interesting primitive technology they use to build wooden and tin houses on the char village in a certain style that can be opened in parts in case the char starts disappearing so that they can move to other places along with their house. Maybe we will start our day very early in the morning and our first visit would be to Kashef’s newly built red mosque in Keranigonj and then we will approach Sonargaon. We will try to make each day very long to visit as much architecture as possible.
